About

One Book One Manchester organizes a yearly, city-wide book reading that brings together a multitude of organizations and individuals to address relevant issues in the community.

One Book One Manchester started as a project in a Creative Writing class at the New Hampshire Institute of Art (now the Institute of Art and Design at New England College) that encouraged the interaction of students with the community to form book groups. Previously, in 2009, the city had participated in the NEA's Big Read of The Great Gatsby, which included a Roaring Twenties celebration at the Currier Museum of Art. Revived in 2018 as OBOM, which brought author Mohsin Hamid to the city, it has now expanded into an extensive reading and educational program with the support of Barnes and Noble, Dismas Home of New Hampshire, Inc., New England College, including the Institute of Art and Design, Manchester City Library, Manchester Community College, Manchester School District, Saint Anselm College, Southern New Hampshire University, The Bookery Manchester, the University of New Hampshire at Manchester, and the YWCA NH.

We hope to spread the importance of literary conversation with your support.
